December 9th: Pop Culture Anarchy!

December 7, 2012 § Leave a comment

Dead serious reading this week, everyone.
After reading Society of the Spectacle, we felt it appropriate to read some things about celebrities who happen to be (or at least say they are) anarchists. Who knows how this conversation is going to go.
Also, someone made that graphic. Like, independently of this weeks reading. Weird.
Jeff Monson:
“Monson is known for his anarchist views and affiliations. In an interview, he explained, “I am an anarchist, someone who would like to do away with all class hierarchy in society and the institutions that promote this inequality.” [4] He correspondingly receives sponsorship from AK Press and has several anarchist symbols tattooed on his body. In solidarity, Monson is a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (Wobblies).
one more Monson article forwarded to me by Zack (thanks Zack!):

“On one of the stations he noticed two policemen trying to calm down a drunken man. Their methods seemed too aggressive to the American and he rushed to calm down the policemen. Monson’s escort decided not to wait until the American, known for his penchant for anarchism, beat up the surprised law-enforcers and stopped the scuffle.”
