Kurdish Libertarian Socialist Movement

This time we couldn’t decide on what exactly to read for this topic so you have to decide among a list of choices. We wanted to give a sort of theoretical piece and a more pointed newsy piece. For the theoretical piece there is Bookchin, Öcalan, and the Dialectics of Democracy. On the other side we have a huge list of stuff to read. So, read a bit of this and that and tell us what you think. I don’t think we are all going to read all the articles, so feel free to pick and choose amongst these and the others that are sent in as you desire:

Bookchin, Öcalan, and the Dialectics of Democracy – http://new-compass.net/articles/bookchin-%C3%B6calan-and-dialectics-democracy

Some articles from Roarmag: http://roarmag.org/2014/07/rojava-autonomy-syrian-kurds/ , http://roarmag.org/2014/07/kurdistan-rojova-syria-autonomy/ , http://roarmag.org/2014/08/pkk-kurdish-struggle-autonomy/   — this last one is less about what is happening right now in Syria and more about the history of the Kurdish socialist movement that has led up to the Free Territory in Syria.

The experiment of West Kurdistan (Syrian Kurdistan) has proved that people can make changes – Zaher Baher  –this piece is much longer, more detailed, more critical, but also very informative.

This piece is a little more propagandistic in my opinion, but, here you go: http://www.kurdishquestion.com/insight-research/analysis/socialism-gender-equality-and-social-ecology-in-the-mountains-of-kurdistan/81-socialism-gender-equality-and-social-ecology-in-the-mountains-of-kurdistan.html

Why is the world ignoring the revolutionary Kurds in Syria? by David Graeber – http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/oct/08/why-world-ignoring-revolutionary-kurds-syria-isis
